Acrylic on Wood
Anima Mundi is Latin for Spirit of the World. The word anima means spirit and is the root for the word animal. I wanted the larger pieces in this collection to be statement pieces that command the environments they are in so that they are immediately noticed. The smaller pieces are supposed to stand out once observed, for all the my work is carefully designed to break down what we know intimately and rebuild it with colours and shapes that are in perfect harmony, but not in the ways one might expect. I create them hoping they will make the viewer feel joy at the sight of the beauty of animals and plants and ponder at the harmony within, just as the delicate balances of our world harmonize in ways that are not always obvious, but are critical. My ultimate goal was to make pieces viewers think about how we endanger ourselves and our happiness by contributing to the endangerment and ultimate extinction of other species.
